Sustainability Reporting Board

Role and Responsibilities

The Sustainability Reporting Board has delegated authority from the XRB Board to prepare and issue climate standards and to issue non-binding guidance that relates to non-financial reporting. It also provides strategic insights to staff on relevant emerging international and domestic developments and liaises with international standard-setting bodies in areas of importance to sustainability reporting in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Meet our Sustainability Reporting Board Members

The Sustainability Reporting Board has up to seven members with a focus on diversity of experience, skills and perspective. Members of the SRB are appointed by the XRB Board and are all part time. They are remunerated in accordance with rates determined by the Remuneration Authority.

Becky Lloyd – Chair

Becky Lloyd was formerly Chief Executive of Toitū and now a Non-executive Director with considerable expertise in corporate sustainability. Current governance roles include Connexa Ltd and the Port Otago where she is also the founding Chair of the Port’s Sustainability Committee.  Becky also brings significant experience in commercial leadership spanning infrastructure, manufacturing, professional services, telecommunications and finance sectors. 

Sustainability Reporting Board Members

Joe Hanita is the Chair of Ngā pou o te kawa ora Kaitiaki Governance Group for the External Reporting Board. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Business and professional certifications as a Fellow Chartered Accountant (CAANZ), Chartered Public Finance Accountant (CIPFA UK) and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors New Zealand. Joe holds a senior executive role as Chief Financial Officer and General Manager Corporate Services with Wakatū Incorporation along with other governance roles with Rangitāne in Wairarapa, Te Ātiawa both in Taranaki and Te Tauihu. Joe was born in Masterton but was raised across the rural sector in the North Island and is of Ngāti Kuia, Te Ātiawa, Rangitāne and Ngāti Kahungunu descent.   

Alec is a Partner at KPMG based in Auckland, co-leading the firm’s Climate, Sustainability and ESG proposition as well as its Nature and Biodiversity Initiative.

Alec has a diverse career focussed on addressing the breadth of sustainability challenges and opportunities that are increasingly shaping our communities, society and economy.This has included a range of leaderships positions in academia, business and the public sector, alongside an active involvement in professional institutions, industry associations and networking groups. Alec’s work has ranged from the development of high-level regional strategies on climate change, liveability and wellbeing, incorporating broad stakeholder and community engagement, through to the design of specific delivery programmes and the creation of impact measures to gauge their success.

Alec is a Chartered Environmentalist and is a Member of the Institute of Directors as well as the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

Alison is an experienced sustainability professional with 20 years’ experience. She has worked in the electricity sector both as an engineer and as Head of Sustainability, led Deloitte NZ’s sustainability services practice, and is now in local government as the Manager Climate Change Response at Wellington City Council. Alison was on the External Advisory Panel for the development of the New Zealand climate disclosures standard, and is currently a member of the Sustainability Committee for the NZ Local Government Funding Agency. Through these experiences, Alison has a wide range of knowledge and experience in the practicality of sustainability reporting standards, and how organisations can use reporting to better understand their business and create positive outcomes for themselves, stakeholders and customers.  

Alison’s passion for climate action has only grown since becoming a mother of young children, and she hopes organisations are inspired and empowered through reporting to create the change New Zealand needs for a sustainable, net-zero carbon future. 

LLB, BA, MInst IoD

Carolyn is a sustainability adviser and purpose led business owner with 15 years’ experience helping businesses govern climate risk and opportunities. Alongside her commercial clients, Carolyn sits on the sustainability advisory panels for Zespri and Pamu and was previously head of sustainability for Fonterra. She has governance experience across privately owned companies, not-for-profits and a Māori-Crown joint venture. In 2023, she co-founded Futureful, a purpose led recruitment platform that showcases companies’ environmental and social commitments.

FCA, CMInstD 

Jacqueline has 25 years’ experience in financial audit and advisory services. She was a partner at Deloitte for 11 years in audit and assurance and also led the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability services function for Deloitte New Zealand for nine years. 
Jacqueline has a broad range of experience across the financial services, public, private and not-for-profit sectors.  She is currently a Director of NZX listed Stride Property Group, Pioneer Energy Limited, Queenstown Airport Corporation and NZ Green Investment Finance Limited, as well as Chair of Snow Sports NZ and a member of the Audit Oversight Committee of the Financial Markets Authority and the Risk and Assurance Committee for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. 

Mat is EY Oceania's Chief Sustainability Officer and a Partner in the Climate Change and Sustainability Services team. He has over 20 years’ experience in providing advisory and assurance services related to ESG and climate change.  His experience spans across both the private and public sector and includes sustainability and climate change strategy and governance, climate risk modelling and stress testing, sustainable supply chain and human rights, and non-financial reporting.  Mat also has significant experience in the area of environment, health and safety.

Mat is on the Board of the AASB, is the chair of the Australian chapter of the Earthwatch Institute, and was a member of the TCFD. He holds a master’s degree in Environment and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Melbourne.
